So I got a new (to me) car about a month ago. It’s a 2016 Lexus RC 200t to replace my E39 540i (which got declared a total loss from a bus sideswiping me and yes I’m fine, thank God it was only ~10mph). It’s my first car with a turbo, paddle shifters, blind spot monitoring, back up camera, parking sensors and other electronic gizmos and while it’s pretty fun messing around with them, there’s a lingering question in the back of mind, “How much is it going to cost when they break/malfunction?”

Anyway enjoy these pics courtesy of my potato hands.

I love these wheels. Curb rashing these is now my eternal fear. Also old habits die hard. Still parking like a bimmer asshat.

Bonus Miss Mercedes bait. Apparently it’s getting a ceramic coating, which I’ll be getting in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for that.

Congratulations! Sad to hear about the e39 but this is a very nice replacement!

Nice car, some of the newer Lexuses seem to be pretty decent to drive.

Not sure yet , I’ll be meeting with them in several days to go over the different types of coatings and surface prep options. From what I saw they had a variety of brands and types , presumably for different levels of durability and warranties

Yeah, I was on the fence between this and a 435i, but I ended up getting the Lexus because of the  ventilated seats plus longer term warranty

That’s fair enough, I’d probably go with a 435i with a 6MT, but that’s me. You can’t really go wrong either way.

Is there a way I can route/ display Google maps from my phone to the car’s nav or  failing that upload my destination from my phone to the car’s nav?

Nice! And it’s a Lexus - that stuff is unlikely to break. Mine had all that stuff except the turbo, and nothing broke in 3 years. My wife is almost 2 years into hers and nothing has gone wrong ( despite her abuse) either.

Both of ours are Nebula Gray too - enjoy!

Nope. CarPlay didn’t arrive until the 2018 models. Android Auto is coming for 2020 models.

Best you can do is allow for Hands-free Phone Prompts if you’re using an iPhone. Google has yet to implement the same BT protocol on Android, so for those phones you have to be on the BTA audio source to hear Nav prompts.

Nothing factory will support phone- based Nav on that generation Lexus head unit.

Are you thinking a full coating or just exterior and wheels?

To be honest doing the interior can so very easily be done by yourself with products such as Gtechniq I1ab for interior fabrics, Gtechniq L1ab for leather, Gtechniq C6 for the dashboard and door cars, etc... and these need topped up or redone more often due to the nature of the beast with occupants arms and hands running over the plastic surfaces and sitting and invariably spilling products on the seats, carpets and mats.

Where’s the waghhh banner going?

Also how’s the engine for daily use?

So I can’t have both the  radio on and have Google maps audio prompts through the car's speakers?

Just exterior. Are the Gtechniq sprays what you use for the interior?

No wagh yet :(

There is a noticeable turbo lag, but I think the turbo 4 is a nice balance between enough power to overtake and fuel economy. Then again what i think is “good” fuel economy is anything over 20 mpg overall. The E39 V8 may have skewed my perception on fuel economy ...

Not with an Android phone, no. But that is on Google, not the RC.

Check out BeatSonicUSA to see if they have some sort of module that might work around the limitations of the Nav/BT/Android OS.

Ye’, I’ve been using Gtechniq for a good eight years.

T he I2ab is an all surface cleaner with anti bacterial.

I have one with a spray head for spraying onto cloths then wiping the surface and another with a foaming head to spray a foam onto the cloth or direct to surface as it helps get into the textured surfaces better when aerated .

C6ab is also anti bacterial and restores interiors plastics to original factory fresh lustre with UV protectant.

L1 is a leather protectant that reduces abrasion and dye transfer.
